Creating a Podcast
This guide will walk you through the steps needed to create a video podcast using Media Mill.
Step 1: Upload and Compress Your Video
Begin by adding your video to Media Mill as you normally would. Make sure the video is marked as "available to the public." Then, create a video for iPod derivative. Once the video is done compressing, continue to step 2.
Step 2: Create a Podcast Feed
Click on the "My Podcasts" feed on the left side of the screen. From here, you can create a podcast feed. If you've already created a feed which you'd like to use, skip to step 3.
Each podcast feed can contain many videos. If, for example, you wanted to podcast a number of academic courses, you'd likely create a feed for each course. Click on the "Create a new podcast" link and enter some basic information about the feed. When you click submit, you'll be returned to the "My Podcasts" page and you'll see the newly created podcast feed.
Step 3: Add a video to the feed.
Click on the "Edit" button below the podcast feed you'd like to use. You should see a list of all of your public "Video for iPod" derivatives. Simple check the box next to whichever videos you'd like to include in your podcast. When you're finished, click submit.
Step 4: Share your podcast.
Each podcast feed has an "RSS" link. Depending on the way your computer is configured, you may be able to click that link and browse your podcast feed. You can also right click on the link (or control-click on the Macintosh) and copy the link to your clipboard. You can then paste it into any Podcasting software. For example, in iTunes, select "Advanced" from the top of the screen and click "Subscribe to Podcast." You may also submit this link to the iTunes Store, so that anyone can find it. Be aware that it often takes a few days for links to appear in the iTunes store after you submit them.
